SET THE STAGE FOR YOUR TRAINING
The three-year vocational training is divided into six semesters, with approximately 25 hours per week. It begins in September of each year.
The training at the SfSH focuses on helping students become independent and self-reliant artistic personalities. The diversity of methods is central to this aim. At the SfSH, all relevant methodological approaches (e.g. Chekhov, Grotowski, Stanislavski, Meissner) are taught by specialised instructors. Classes (including breath, voice and bodywork, dance, singing and scenic improvisation) are initially ensemble classes, but in the further course of the training, they increasingly take place on an individual or small group basis.
Screen acting is part of the curriculum as of the 2nd semester. In the last year of training, students can choose between a degree in stage or screen acting, so as to be optimally prepared for the different working conditions and requirements.
Classes are complemented by workshops with internationally distinguished guest teachers, as well as extensive coaching focusing on career prospects and self-management topics.

IMKE TROMMLER
Imke Trommler studied acting at the Folkwang-Hochschule Essen. At the end of her training she was awarded the Max Reinhardt Prize. Guest engagements have taken her to the Theater Oberhausen, Hamburger Kammerspiele and Ernst Deutsch Theater, among others. She has also been in charge of theatre projects with young people for many years, e.g. for TUSCH and at the Ernst Deutsch Theater (Innovation Award 2011).

NEIL MALIK ABDULLAH
Faculty member Neil Malik Abdullah was awarded the German Film Award in 2013 for "Kaddisch für einen Freund". He has appeared in numerous TV productions such as "Alarm for Cobra 11", "Großstadtrevier", "In aller Freundschaft", as well as numerous film productions including "A Most Wanted Man", "Die Pfefferkörner" or "Eine Hand wäscht die andere". In 2015, he appeared alongside Claire Danes in the American drama series "Homeland". Neil Malik Abdullah spent seven years learning the Meisner Technique with Alex Taylor at the Sanford Meisner Center and The Taylor School of Acting in L.A., and actively uses this technique in his work as an actor. This experience makes his training very hands-on and practical.

CORNELIA SCHIRMER
Cornelia Schirmer studied at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch in Berlin. After completing her studies, Jürgen Flimm asked her to join the Thalia Theater. After working at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin she returned to Hamburg, where she has since worked as a freelance actress at the Thalia Theater and St. Pauli Theater as well as the Kammerspiele, among others. She now tours throughout Germany with her own stage program together with our graduate, Delio Malär, and is currently developing her second program.

JAN OBERNDORFF
Jan Oberndorff initially studied theatre history in Munich and then acting at the SCHULE FÜR SCHAUSPIEL HAMBURG. After several years working as a theater and TV actor he soon became a director.
He received the Critics' Prize of the Berliner Zeitung in Berlin for his directorial debut, Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet". He staged further productions in Berlin, Vienna, Munich, Rostock and Hildesheim, among others. more...
ULRICH MEYER-HORSCH
Member of faculty of the Int. Michael Chekhov Association MICHA, New York, and guest professor at the Yeditepe University Istanbul. His work focuses on free artistic acting as well as transformation. He is an actor and director and has worked with Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Kampnagel Hamburg, Schauspiel Frankfurt, Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin, Altonaer Theater, among others.

In 2004, the SfSH was awarded the Friedrich-Schütter-Prize for outstanding quality in professional acting training.
Since 1998, the affiliated Friends of the Schule für Schauspiel Hamburg O33 e.V. have supported the artistic path of the students with numerous events and projects. Since 2015, the Friends of SfSH has awarded the PerformancePlus Grant to third year students who have shown exceptional creativity. This might be something you want to apply for too!
